Film Review

Compose a video-based review that considers the film and the book versions of No Country for Old Men. Use Camtasia to create the video review. You may want to consider some of the dynamics discussed in the article, "Adaptation Studies at a Crossroads." You can also investigate more resources releated to adaptation. You can decide how much to make the piece about adaptation as a concept, and how much to focus on either the book or the film versions. The video that you create can strike a balance or pursue your own interests as it takes up the two texts. The main thing is to have both versions in mind and in some ways bring them together in the piece.

You can also work by developing typical elements of a film review. In the video format, you will have a great opportunity to discuss film techniques in the review. The review will, of course, shift with the switch in medium from print to screen or vice versa. You will use clips to "read" and discuss scenes from the film and aspects of the novel. Use screen recording moves and video editing strategies to create the review--recording typing or searching, integrating images, audio, or video, adding narration, callouts, masking, opacity, etc.

Although they do not correspond exactly to this "two text" assignment, here are some examples:

When finished, upload your videos to YouTube or Vimeo, then add it them to our class Web site using the Video Review content type. The posting is due on March 22nd.
